The special caveat for active service members whose service dates fell pre-Vietnam between February 28th, 1961, until August 5th, 1964, can only fulfill the “wartime” eligibility requirement if they are considered “in country” or often referred to as “boots on the ground”. Congress declared Vietnam a wartime on August 5th, 1964, ending May 7th, 1975. You are receiving this response since you selected your service dates before the Vietnam War was declared and you did not serve “in country”. If you find that you inadvertently selected that in error, please respond here and someone will contact you. If you did have duty dates after the declared date of August 5th,1964 and were not eligible for the Enhanced Pension with Aid and Attendance but still wish to explore other subsidies like Medicaid please respond here that you wish to discuss alternatives to the VA programs.
